jewellery care

At ren, we want your pieces to stay beautiful for years to come. Follow these simple guidelines to keep your jewellery looking its best.

General Care Tips

A little everyday mindfulness goes a long way. We recommend removing your jewellery before swimming, bathing, exercising, or applying perfume, lotions, and hairspray. Chemicals and moisture can dull metals and damage stones over time. Always put your jewellery on last when getting ready, and take it off first when you're done.

Gold Jewellery

Gold is a timeless metal, but it does need a little care to keep its lustre. To clean gold jewellery at home, soak it briefly in warm water with a small drop of mild dish soap, then gently scrub with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, chlorine, and abrasive cleaners, which can damage the surface and weaken settings over time.

Silver Jewellery

Silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air and moisture, but it's easy to restore. Polish your silver pieces regularly with a soft silver polishing cloth to keep them bright. For a deeper clean, use a silver cleaning solution or a mild soap-and-water wash, then dry immediately and thoroughly — moisture left on silver can accelerate tarnishing.

Pearl Jewellery

Pearls are organic gems and among the most delicate of all jewellery materials. They should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, and household chemicals, as these can erode the nacre (the lustrous outer coating) over time.

After wearing, wipe your pearls gently with a clean, damp soft cloth to remove any skin oils or residue. Never soak pearls in water or use ultrasonic cleaners. Store them flat in a soft cloth or pouch — not in an airtight container, as pearls benefit from a little humidity to prevent drying out.

If your pearl jewellery is strung, have the silk thread inspected and re-strung periodically, especially if worn regularly.

Professional Cleaning

We recommend having your fine jewellery professionally cleaned and inspected once a year. A jeweller can check for loose settings, worn clasps, and other signs of wear before they become a bigger problem.
